Who we are
Shop2gether is a shared shopping-list app run by the app owner in the United Kingdom. We are responsible for the personal information described here. You can contact us at the contact email shown in the app.
What we collect
- Your Google account details: your name, email address and profile picture, which Google shares with us when you sign in. We only show your first name to other people in your lists.
- What you put in the app: list names, shopping items, who added or ticked each item, repeat settings, and any shopping costs or budgets you enter.
- Which lists you belong to, so the app can show them to you.
- Usage information: the days and hours you use the app, under a scrambled code (see below).
- If you turn on notifications: a code that lets us send alerts to your device.
We do not collect your location, contacts or payment details, and we do not use advertising cookies or third-party trackers.
How we understand how the app is used
To see whether Shop2gether is useful and how to improve it, the app records two things, unless you switch this off:
- The days and hours you open the app, for example "Tuesday, 6pm". This is stored under a scrambled code made from your account, not your name or email address. Nothing else is recorded about the visit: no location, device details or what you looked at.
- Anonymous daily totals, such as "items added today" or "shops logged today". These are simple counts and are not linked to you or to any list.
We never look at what's on people's lists or how much they spend to produce these figures, and they are only seen by the app owner. We use them because we have a legitimate interest in understanding and improving the app.
You can switch this off at any time in the app under Settings โ Help improve Shop2gether. Switching it off also deletes your past visit records. All usage records are deleted automatically after 12 months.
Why we use it
Only to run the app: signing you in, showing your lists to the people you share them with, keeping everyone's phones up to date, and sending notifications you've asked for. The legal basis is that we need this information to provide the service you signed up for.
We never sell your information or share it with advertisers.
Who can see it
- People in the same list can see that list's items, your first name next to items you add or tick, and any spending logged for that list.
- Google stores the app and its data for us, using Google Firebase. Google acts on our instructions and must keep the data secure. Some of Google's processing, such as sign-in, may take place outside the UK, protected by legal safeguards approved for UK data.
How long we keep it
Items stay until someone removes them. If you leave a list, you stop being a member of it.
To delete your account, open the app and go to Settings โ Delete my account. This removes you from all your lists, deletes any list where you were the only member, replaces your name on shared lists with "Former member", and permanently deletes your account, settings and usage records. You can also email us and we'll do it for you within 30 days.
Storage on your device
The app saves a copy of itself and your lists on your device so it opens quickly and works with poor signal. It also remembers whether you've closed the install message, and the last hour a visit was recorded so it isn't recorded twice. These are needed for the app to work, and we don't use them to track you.
Children
Shop2gether is meant for households and families. Children under 13 should only use it with a parent or carer's permission.
Your rights
You can ask us for a copy of your information, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Email the contact email shown in the app. If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
